East Coast Music Awards

THe East Coast Music Awards were presented in Charlottetown on Monday night, in front of a capacity crowd, which included new Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper, and a nationwide TV audience.
Country Boy, GEORGE CANYON , originally from Nova Scotia, was the big winner, collecting the award for the fan voted Entertainer Of The Year.
The Dr. Helen Creighton Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to legendary Cape Breton fiddler BUDDY MacMASTER. Natalie MacMaster, performed a medley of her uncle's tunes, before presenting the award.
Recent Celtic Connections visitor J.P. Cormier won folk recording of the year for his album The Long River: A Personal Tribute to Gordon Lightfoot.
The SONS OF MAXWELL took home the accolade for Best Country Recording, for "Sunday Morning", whilst CROOKED STOVEPIPE were the top Bluegrass act.
The night, however, belonged to rockers Matt Mays & El Torpedo,who won 4 awards, including top single for their "Cocaine Cowgirl
